Deja-Vu : Web 2.0 brings back to origins of Java

Interesting to note that the present day euphoria on Web 2.0 is concentraing on Rich Clients

and support for rich internet applications across all kinds of languages including Java.

Well is this anything new? This is to remind you that Java started as a client side language, remember the early 90s the thick huge Java Applets were all the talk.

Read on..

1 Only after servlets, the web logics and webspheres and iplanets started touting the benefits of using java at server end.. So applets were conveniently forgotten.

will web 2.0 revive applets and the origins of Java. Will there be a convergence of the thoughts of applets and web 2.0 based RIAs.

At this moment though it is refreshing to see all kinds of debates on web 2.0 as an unleashing of the power of rich client side computing combined with versatility of web, but is this really a new concept?

Will applets see a revival as enterprise enablers of information access via web 2.0?

debate between having thick client side or server side has been long. With time, I think the line has grown finer, and as we see the success stories of web2.0, it attributes to richer clients, which contain more funtionalities for same thickness. IMHO, Flash is much better in this regard to applets, even though its capabilities havent been harnessed to its potential.

Still, I agree that Web2.0 is not a new concept, but has been waiting for long time for right infrastructure as well as time (as business demands) to show its potential. There is a long list of potential technoloiges whcih are waiting to sing its success stories. Grid and Nanocomputing would be common to mention.
